Ancient Rudongla Trail(14 Days)
Day 1 - Arrival at Paro
Arrive at Paro Airport. You will be received by representative of Barma Tours & Treks Co. and transferred to your Hotel in Paro.
Day 2 - Paro Valley Sightseeing - Drive to Thimphu
After breakfast drive to the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong. Along the way, one can view the sacred Mount Jhomolhari (7,314m). Visit a typical Bhutanese farmhouse to experience the daily life of the local farmer. After lunch, visit Museum and then travel along the winding river banks.
Halt at hotel in Thimphu.
Day 3 - Thimphu Sightseeing
After breakfast head for Thimphu. In Thimphu sightseeing will include Zilukha Nunnery, National Library, Handicrafts Emporium, Memorial Chorten, Textile Museum, Handmade paper factory. Stroll the Thimphu streets in the evening to shop or just window shop.
Day 4 - Thimphu to Trongsa
After breakfast, head for Trongsa. Enroute, stop at Dochula for view of the Himalayan peaks, and lunch at Chendibji chorten (stupa). After lunch, continue the journey to Trongsa which takes 8 hours.
Overnight halt at hotel in Trongsa.
Day 5 - Trongsa to Bumthang Jakar
After breakfast, your road will climb up to Yotongla pass. Then you are going to descend into Bumthang valley. You can catch a glimpse of Jakar or “Castle of White Bird” on the way. Lunch at hotel. Take the afternoon to drive around Bumthang valley with numerous historic sites or take a walk.
Day 6 - Bumthang Jakar to Ngang Lhakhang
The trek starts today with a 14 Km stretch. Following the Chamkhar River, the trail will lead to Ngang Yul or Swan Land. Lunch at Thangbi Lhakhang. There is a temple built here in the valley called Ngang Lhakhang meaning temple of the Swan. Overnight in Camp.
Day 7 - Ngang lhakhang to Ugyen Choelling
Climb gradually to Phephela Pass (3630 meters), the highest point in the trek. The descent gives way to one of the most beautiful forested valley in Bhutan. Ugyen Choelling palace can be seen also on the way. Camp at river side.
Day 8 - Ugyen Choelling to Phokpey
17 Km trail would ascend through dwarf bamboo, hemlock and alpine shrub forests. Camp at Phokpey.
Day 9 - Phokpey to Ungar
Climb up for 1 hour to Rudongla Pass at 3,700 meters. This was the ancient trail used by King’s messengers in olden times. From the pass it is downhill, descending in Blue Pine forest. Distance 20 km. 7/8 hours of walk. Camp at Ungar.
Day 10 - Ungar to Taskila
The 21 km trail can be described as wavy - going up and down. It passes through Drula village and Khainey Lhakang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, built by Mythical Tibetan king. 7-8 hours duration.
Day 11 - Taskila - Lhuntshi
Drive up to Lhuntshi Guest house for lunch. After lunch, take rest for the afternoon. Or you can drive along Dungkhar road.
Day 12 - Lhuntshi to Bumthang
After Breakfast, we would be driving to Bumthang. Pack lunch would provided. Reach Bumthang hotel for the night.
Day 13 - Bumthang to Thimphu
After breakfast drive to Thimphu. It would be a 9 hours drive through winding roads. Evening stroll through Thimphu street.
Night halt at hotel in Thimphu.
Day14 Thimphu to Paro for Departure from Bhutan
After early breakfast, drive to Paro airport for your departure from Bhutan.
